Finding Balance Through Training

Meet Ashley

Hi, I’m Ashley—a dog trainer in the heart of the High Desert, just outside of Joshua Tree, California, and the founder of A Fetchin Good Time. I help overwhelmed owners build calm, trusting relationships with their dogs through honest, effective, relationship-based training. My work is all about real-life support: no gimmicks, no judgment, just clear communication and structure that helps both you and your dog feel more grounded.

Outside of training, I’m a mom to a 13-year-old, and I spend as much time as I can outdoors—hiking, climbing, camping, you name it. I also went to culinary school and love cooking up meals that bring people together. Nature and animals have always inspired me with how resilient and adaptive they are, and I bring that same mindset into the way I train.

Whether you’re looking for board and train options in Joshua Tree, group dog classes in Twentynine Palms, or in-home day training support, I’m here to help you create a life with your dog that feels more peaceful, connected, and free.

Where it started

My journey into dog training began in Hawaii, working at a local dog daycare. I became fascinated by how dogs communicate—body language, energy, behavior dynamics. That curiosity led me to realize that the relationship I had with my own dog, Butters, wasn’t as healthy as I thought.

I started learning everything I could, mostly through online resources, and began practicing with Butters: leash skills, crate training, and basic structure. When I moved from Hawaii to the high desert, I couldn’t imagine leaving the dog world behind. So I opened A Fetchin Good Time as a small boarding and daycare service here in Joshua Tree—and quickly saw just how many dog owners were looking for help beyond basic care.

Over time, I dove deeper into training. I attended workshops, joined online communities, and built the foundation of what my business is today: a trusted dog training service for the Twentynine Palms and Joshua Tree communities, helping people who feel stuck find their way forward.

Community Connections
My business is built on the foundation of my community. I volunteer and foster for the Palms N Paws shelter, where I organized a successful fundraiser that raised $3,000. By networking with 40+ local businesses, we hosted a vibrant event with vendors, live music, a pet parade, and even a car show, ultimately finding homes for 7 animals in one day.

I’m also proud to have partnered with the Joshua Tree No Kill Shelter. I participate in local events, providing information about dog training and shelter resources. My goal is to ensure that adopters, especially those bringing home a rescue or dealing with challenging behavior, feel supported, confident, and informed. These moments are vulnerable for any dog guardian, and it's a responsibility I take seriously.

Last year, I was nominated for Best in the Best of the Best Morongo Basin, where I was honored to win 2nd place—thanks to the support of my wonderful community.

How I Train

Training with me is never about perfection or control. It’s about understanding your dog, setting clear boundaries, and building a relationship based on trust. Whether you're signing up for a board and train, enrolling in group classes, or exploring day training options, you’ll get personalized support that meets you where you are.

My training approach is relationship-first, calm, and sustainable. We look at the full picture—your dog’s behavior, your lifestyle, and your goals—and build a plan that actually fits your real life. This work is collaborative and rooted in compassion, because both you and your dog deserve to feel good in your home.
